Reaching

The perspective makes it difficult to tell if there are 3 hands or 4 hands. They are reaching from the darkness to the light. Are they trying to escape or are the reaching towards a victim to pull them down into the darkness to join them. Or are the only signaling to others "hey, I'm here, I'm alive"

The composition asks many questions and poses many possibilities and provides no answers. It invites the observer to create a story. The artist suggests a theme through her choice of hashtags, turning the story as dark as the background. I see other stories as well - stories of hope and renewal.

The use of saturation, making the palms of the hands appear unnaturally red both adds and subtracts from the image. It adds another twist to possible stories. I wonder what a monotone treatment might ad to the sense of mystery.
